Hiking, Biking and Snowmobiling:

The Trans Canada Trail runs through Gambo and is easily accessible from the inn. It is maintained throughout the year and is an ideal way to see the area on foot, bike or snowmobile.

Middle Brook River, located in Gambo is a wonderful place to spend a morning or afternoon any time of year. Stroll along the trail to the waterfalls and upwards to the salmon ladder where the salmon are counted. In the summer, children can swim in the pool at the base of the river. Adults can have a little more fun swimming in the “Bucket Hole”, an area at the base of the salmon ladder that’s bordered on all sides by waterfalls and giant rocks.

Icebergs, Whales & Birds:

Since much of the Kittiwake Coast lies within “Iceberg Alley”, if you visit between April to July, you are guaranteed to see at least a dozen. Some as large as ˝ a kilometre long can be viewed from shore.

When the ice moves on, many whales come to play and feed on silvery capelin. If you visit at the right time, you can tag along with us as we catch capelin that roll onto the beach in Eastport. Fish frys are a big treat at the end the trip.

Birdlife abounds along the Kittiwake Coast. In the spring and early summer, bald eagles and hawks can be seen flying over the inn and fishing in our bay in numbers. You are welcome to borrow a pair of binoculars and take along a picnic lunch from the Bistro on your bird watching adventure.

Berry Picking:

Berries are everywhere! Blueberries, raspberries, partridge and gooseberries. Take along a container and pick to your hearts delight.

Beaches, Fishing Villages, Festivals and Boat Tours:

Within close proximity of the inn, there is a number of things to see and do. Comb white sandy beaches for hidden treasures, visit historical fishing out-ports and museums, take in a festival or two or tour the ocean and rivers on boat.
